How to Use SVG Optimizer

1

Paste SVG Code

Paste raw SVG markup — especially SVGs exported from design tools like Illustrator, Figma, or Sketch. These exports often contain editor metadata, comments, and unnecessary attributes.

2

Optimize the SVG

Click "Optimize" to strip editor metadata, remove comments, clean up unnecessary attributes, and simplify the SVG structure. The tool preserves visual appearance while reducing file size.

3

Copy the Clean SVG

The optimized SVG appears in the output panel. The size reduction is shown as a percentage. Use the cleaned SVG in your projects — it will render identically but load faster and take less space.

Common Size Reductions

SourceTypical ReductionWhat Gets Removed
Illustrator Export40-60%i:namespace attributes, layer structure, editor metadata
Figma Export30-50%figma namespace, id tags, group nesting
Sketch Export35-55%sketch namespace, comments, page info
Icon Library SVG10-25%Comments, title/desc tags, unnecessary groups

Frequently Asked Questions

What does SVG optimization remove?

Our optimizer removes: XML comments, editor metadata (Illustrator, Figma, Sketch namespaces and attributes), unnecessary nested groups, empty elements, default attribute values, and redundant namespace declarations. It does NOT change: paths, shapes, colors, gradients, or any visual aspect of the SVG. The optimized SVG renders identically to the original.

Will optimization break my SVG?

No, the optimizer only removes non-visual markup. However, if your SVG relies on editor-specific metadata (like layer names for animation scripts), that data will be removed. Always preview the optimized SVG before using it in production. For complex SVGs with custom scripts, test the optimized output thoroughly.

How does this compare to SVGO?

SVGO is the industry-standard SVG optimization tool and offers more advanced features like path optimization and precision control. Our tool provides a quick browser-based alternative for common cleanup tasks. For production SVG pipelines, use SVGO as part of your build process. Use our tool for quick one-off optimizations without installing anything.

Why are exported SVGs so large?

Design tools add significant metadata — layer names, artboard information, export settings, editor-specific XML namespaces. A simple icon that should be 200 bytes can be 2KB+ from direct export. Optimization strips this metadata, often reducing SVG size by 30-70%. The remaining size is the actual drawing data, which can be further minified with our SVG Minifier.
